Sustainable Tuesday happens every day at Brouwland

It’s Sustainable Tuesday again on Tuesday 7 September but actually, it’s Sustainable Tuesday every day at Brouwland. What do you mean? Respect for animals, people and the environment is one of our fixed values. Please read on to discover 3 recent examples, they may even inspire you as well...

We recently built a flower meadow with 2 beehives. Beekeeper Frank from Imkerij Nais in Ulbeek takes care of the bees and hives using all his knowledge. And he can also count on support from Zorgimkerij Immegaard, an organisation that introduces vulnerable people to his wonderful profession.

Trend spotted: mead

The first 160 honey jars have just been delivered and will be tasted by our expert colleagues. The rest of the honey will be available in our Beverlo shop. Did you know honey not only works well on a sandwich, but also in homemade beerliqueur or mead. How so? Be(e)cause mead is an alcoholic drink made by fermenting honey and water. It can be enjoyed hot or cold, and is currently very popular in the Far North.

Do you fancy making your own mead? You don’t need much: water, honey, yeast and a fermentation bottle, vessel or a carboy with an airlock. The type of yeast has a big influence on the taste of the mead. Tip: yeast for white wines, such as chardonnay, is a hit. All the tools and ingredients to make mead or honey wine yourself can be found in the wine category of our webshop.

OTHER SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES?

Investment in people...

Brouwland’s close-knit team will be permanently strengthened by extra talent from Bewel and Cellmade. They have been responsible for various production tasks, such as the assembly and packaging of many products, for many years already. As you can see, sustainability is also about investing in diverse talent.

… and investing in the sun

Did you know there are no fewer than 1590 solar panels on the Brouwland roofs? These ensure we more than meet our own energy needs. What’s more: there is sufficient solar energy available to even charge the electric cars in our renewed fleet.
