Malts

Beer consists of four main ingredients: water, hops, yeast and malt. Your choice of malt determines your beer's colour, aroma and flavour. An important term to remember is EBC, or European Brewery Convention. This indicates the colour of your beer. Lower than 10 describes a very pale yellow, from 26 it becomes more amber and 30 to 79 will be coppery to dark brown. The higher the number, the darker the colour.
